About NATO Watch Straps
NATO watch straps have military origins. On 30 November 1973, the British Ministry of Defence set out technical specifications for this type of strap, originally intended for military use.
Over the years, NATO straps have become popular with watch enthusiasts around the world for their versatility, comfort, durability and secure design.
Their defining feature is the way the strap passes beneath the watch case and through both spring bars. If one spring bar accidentally comes loose, the strap remains attached to the other, helping prevent the watch from falling off your wrist.
How to Choose the Right Strap Width
Before ordering, measure the distance between the inside edges of your watch’s lugs — the two points on the case where the strap attaches. This measurement, known as the lug width, is the strap width you need. For example, a watch with a 20 mm lug width requires a 20 mm strap.
